When I add items manually to the tree, it is usually a folder. So the default child template for a folder is another folder.

But when I paste text from another application into UR, those items appear as folders. I'd prefer them to be text items.

Is there any way to default pasted objects as text items?

Another work around is to be able to create keyboard shortcuts such that "insert" puts in the default child item, but something like ctrl+insert puts in a text child item. Etc. (I've tried customizing the toolbars but with no luck.)

I know that I can reset the default child item to text, then manually click on insert, scroll down to folder, to add a folder. But with apps like these, decreasing the transaction costs of assimilating data is crucial--getting rid of a few clicks and scrolls makes all the difference between keeping an app or moving on to another.

Thanks.

There isn't a way to post text as a particular template type, but a few simpler options (than you mention) do exist:
1) Paste the text (which creates a new folder item), then simply change the Template Item value of the newly created item to Text
2) Create a new child Text item, then paste your text into the Item Details pane of this new item

Thanks for the prompt reply. I've worked around it by using a separate keystroke macro program. I've changed default child item to text, but created a hotkey to insert folders instead. I do think that one key versus mousing + 2 or 3 clicks makes a huge difference in workflow.

Thanks for listening.

If adding text is more common than folders, you could make text the default child template (so that paste creates a text item), then to add a folder, use Alt+Ins, then F (two keystrokes, but if it's not done that often it should be close enough).
