View Full Version : Only some of templates shown in drop down

When trying to change "Template Item" for an item, I came across the problem that only some of the templates installed under "Templates" are shown in the drop-down making it impossible (at least to my knowledge) to change from one template to certain other templates. Interestingly, the list seems to be partitioned because, depending on which template is set to be current, one fixed section (not dependent on ordering within "Templates" node) is shown.

The number of installed templates is 21, so it's not even that much. The drop-down shows 13 items at most.

Is there a way to work around this?

Templates derived from the Document template are not "compatible" with templates derived from the Text template, therefore the Template dropdown for a Text derived item will only list the templates that are compatible (also derived from the Text template), and vice versa.

Note that the Appointment, Contact and Task templates (and their derivatives) behave somewhat differently (they can "cross-over") because they can either store an Outlook object or can function like a Text item (store rtf text).
