View Full Version : Opening Certain Files Internally ... Again

I've carefully read the "help" file, searched the forums, but still couldn't get the following to work:

I would like to open internally pdf and Excel files.

Word 2007 files open internally just fine, but not pdf (Adobe Reader 9) and Excel 2007 files. When I try to I get this message: "Click here to open linked document." If I click there, the file opens externally.

And yes, in Tools | Options | Documents | "File extensions to open stored documents writeable" I inserted (...) .doc;.docx;.xls;.xlsx;.pdf (...).

And also yes, in Tools | Options | Browser | "File extensions to display in internal browser view" I inserted (...) .doc;.docx;.xls;.xlsx;.pdf (...).

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? The answer is probably right there, staying me in the face.

From this post:

In UR, go to 'Tools | Options | Browser | File Extensions to display in internal browser', and add the extensions for the Office documents to be edited inside UR (i..e, .doc, .xls, etc.). If the document should be opened editable, also add the extension to 'Tools | Options | Documents | File extensions to open stored documents writeable' (all Office documents are in this list by default).

Note: For Office 2007 XML document formats (i.e., .docx;.xlsx;.pptx), add .zip to this field (File extensions to open stored documents writeable).

Yes, thanks, but I have already done that, after searching the forums and finding the information you quoted.

But it still doesn't work. Oh, well, it's just one extra mouse click. Still.

Make sure that .pdf,.xls,.xlsx,.zip etc. are removed from 'Tools | Options | File extensions to view/edit externally'.

If the documents are linked (not stored) in UR, check 'Tools | Options | Documents | Allow internal editing of linked documents'.

Regarding Excel 2007, note the mention of .zip in the previous post for Office 2007 documents.

Thanks, kinook, for the detailed help. The solution was to uninstall Adobe Reader 9.0 and install Foxit Reader 3.0, instead. Problem solved.

I still can't get Excel 2007 to open internally, though. MS Word 2007 opens, but not Excel 2007. Strange.

Please ZIP and send to support@kinook.com:
1) The info from Help | About | Install Info
2) Run RegEdit and export the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Kinook Software\Ultra Recall\Options"
3) A .urd file with an Excel document item
4) A screen shot of UR after selecting the Excel item

Thanks.
