Hi, I have been using UR as a tree-form note manager, happily importing PDFs, web pages, writing my own notes etc. I am aware that it is possible to make personalised Form templates, but I cannot find a tutorial or clear explanation to take me through the process. I find that the Help file, with its many hyperlinks, just leaves me jumping around and not seeing the bigger picture.

Is there a tutorial anyone can point to, or could someone guide me through the process, of creating a Form template for Projects, including fields like:
Project name
Project reference
Date commenced
Client name
Project value

Once I have those, I should be able to take it from there.

Thanks

Perhaps this will help with the "big picture"-

Goal - Create a new Project form and have it appear when I add a new Project Item.

Tasks-

1. Create several new Item Attributes (fields).
Tools | Attributes | Insert "Project Reference"

2. Create a new form called Project.
Tools | Forms | Insert 'Project' and use the pulldowns to add the Attributes that I desire to appear on the form. (select Help in the Form Editor for explanation of the layout choices)

3. Associate the newly created Project Form with the existing Template named Project.
In the Data Explorer Pane, select the Template named Project. In the Item Attributes Pane, go to the Attribute named Form and change the value using the pulldown to Project.

Now each Item created from the Template Project will have the Project Form displayed in the Item Details.

Is this helpful or do you need assistance with one of the "Tasks"?

Thanks, that is really helpful. I have copied your instructions into Ultra Recall!

The biggest stumbling block was the creation of new item attributes - I couldn't figure out why they seemed to be limited to a preset list! Also where to add the Form to the Template... got it now.

Is there a practical limit on how many fields can be in a form?

Many thanks for your prompt response :)

I haven't used more than about 6 or 8 rows, but others have...see

Ok, if I understand correctly, beyond about 17 rows in the form, each of which can include up to 3 columns, you lose the text field which otherwise appears by default below the rows. That doesn't sound like an absolute limit, unless the limit is determined by the Form Editor dialog not allowing more rows. If there is a definitive answer, it would be good to know, otherwsie I'll just make a dummy form sometime and see if I hit a limit.

Thanks again.
