Default font color

When I try to change the Default Font Color for Selected Items to something other than black and go back in it reverts back to black, see attachment.

Also, is there a way to change the background color on selected items ( by default )?

The color can't be configured that way, but it is possible for flagged items (text and background color) via Tools | Flags | Properties.
