other possible danger(s)
I've begun to notice that, sometimes, when moving an item from related pane that other item(s) are moved as well.
For example I found 'Imported Items" branch in a grandchild of All Data. I didn't ask UR to make that move. I've also found data branches in the Recycle bin which I didn't delete. When I suddenly can't find something I know immediately this has happened somewhere along the line & when I search this suspicion is confirmed. The next problem is how to move 'Imported' branch back to its proper position. URp is allowing me to copy but not to move it. |
My Imported items is under My Data, which is where I think it should but, but it's also under a text data item in another part of the tree, and UR won't let me delete it from there!

No, I don't know how it got there. It's been there for a while, though, and I've just learned to live with it.

Imported items can simply be moved using 'alt+L' then choose 'move' .
I normally create an 'UtraRecall Maintenance' folder and put all of UR default items in it. Things like 'template' and 'imported items'. |

In my case, URp does not allow 'move'. URp only allows copy Imported branch. And, of course, the original cannot be deleted. 10:54 am - after shut down / startup I was able to drag / drop Imported branch to All Data (effrectively a move). |
Tools | Compact and Repair, with Repair and Reset checked should restore a moved or logically linked system item to its orginal location.

I think the problem may be caused by this:

"Reset all system information to defaults: Checking this box will ensure that the system defaults for all system Info Items, Attributes, Related Items Pane layouts will be reset to the default values." will do. If I do this, will I lose all my layouts, toolbar settings and other customisations that I've built up over the years of using UR? |

The only things affected by the Reset option are the system items, whose location, attributes, and column layouts will be restored to their original values. The system items are My Searches, My Data, Quick Search, Imported Items, Recycle Bin, Templates, and the children of Templates. http://www.kinook.com/Forum/showthre...?threadid=2988 |
Is there any way to backup and restore column layouts? I use these extensively for custom templates that are based on system templates.

Thanks, janrif. Yes, I'm very reluctant to reset. I think I'll just live with the Imported Items duplicated under a random text item, even although it looks stupid.
I can't understand why, as Imported Items managed to get linked somewhere else, I can't just delete the link. |

Jon's post refers to certain situations in which this mysterious move could occur & thiose situations matched mine. Kinook posted it was fixed in the current version. I hope this is true but I'm not convinced yet altho I do think he/they solved a lot of the buglets that were plaguing URp recently. |
If the column layouts are defined on your derived templates, then they will not be affected - only the column layouts of the actual "system" templates (Text, Document, Search [template], will be affected.
If you have customized the "system" template column layouts, I would recommend that you copy your .urd file, do a Full Repair on the original, and then manually update the few "system" template column layouts to match the copy... I would suspect that this will be unnecessary since you have likely done your customizations to non-system templates/items, but if it does, you can simply revert to the copy. |
