Displaying PDFs "in-line"
Whenever I import a PDF I can get its path (a string of ?'s) to either appear as a child item under my context item in Data Explorer or as a child item in Imported Items. The Adobe page appears Ok in the Details pane when I click on the child item. My Data Explorer pane is going to get very big (from experience with Ecco) and I don't want it cluttered with child path items as happens with Ecco
However, if I import an email from Thunderbird its content appears in the Details pane as soon as I click on the context item in Data Explorer - perfect!. Is it possible to get PDF's to appear like this, and if so how? Is it to do with the Document, URL attribute? This is blank when I try to import a PDF file and has a value 'email|1.eml' after I have imported an email (only 1 so far). |

Before I posted this thread I had tried pasting the PDF's path into the Document, URL field of my context item but, when I clicked on the context item nothing happened (hence this thread) because:
Possible bug in UR 3.2.6. I had UR open in one monitor and UR Help open in the other. the reason the PDF wasn't displayed was that there was a Microsoft Office dialog hidden underneath the Help page saying that ...This feature is not installed. Please insert the CD-ROM... When I X'ed the dialog the PDF appeared Ok in UR. This dialog re-appeared everytime I clicked on the context item during yesterday's session but is not appearing now that I have reloaded UR I had created my PDF by scanning the page into MS Word via FineReader and saving it as a PDF. I then exited Word before pasting the path into UR. No problem for me - I can avoid Word next time. Another query; how do I delete user-defined keyword(s)? I am evaluating UR 3.2.6 and have added some trial keywords which I no longer want. Or; can I rename them? |

The beta of 3.5 improves this by including a option to remove user-defined keywords for all items. |

Thank you. Quant's post of 11/30/06 did the job.
Now to design a set of keywords to mimic my folder/column setup in Ecco. UR is becoming more and more impressive (in spite of the steep learning curve! In Ecco I had everything subordinate to a Diary folder and it looks as if I can do the same in UR with My Data renamed Diary. |
