Parameterized "Quick Searches"
Came across a very obvious use-case today... I have a
custom template item called "Password" for saving passwords (Kinook, could you provide a password field type please?) I wanted to do a quick search for passwords, but I wanted to only match password items... the current best way to do this is to organize all of your passwords under a single directory structure, then you can hotkey to that location and use the Search Here functionality. But if you want to store passwords in more contextual locations (not in one big tree), then they become difficult to search. Would be great to have the ability to save an Advanced Search screen *as* a Search Template... it still allows you to type in some keywords, but it saves the row that tells it to only match Password items. This seems fairly simple to do... what do people think? |

Perhaps I don't understand your problem clearly...but this is one simple approach using the current tools to search for the password for the Kinook forum.
Given your custom Password Template with attributes of UserName and Password and using the ItemTitle as the service that I need the password for. Create a new Saved Advanced Search and name it Password <<the "Search Template">> Search Parameters: ItemTitle equals Kinook <<allows you to type in search parameter>> and TemplateItem equals Password <<the row that only matches password items>> check boxes blank. Now I can just select the Advanced Search Password in the Data Explore and change the value of Kinook to the service I want to search for. |
