Questions about the 64 bit and portable versions

1. If I install the 64 bit version on a computer with an installed 32 bit version of version 5, will it also use the preferences from version 5? I will be installing 6 in the Program Files folder, not the Program Files (x86) folder where version 5 is installed. After installing version 6, can I uninstall 5 without the loss of my settings and customization? Actually, I should just ask, what is the best practice for installing version 6 in order to retain previous settings and customization from version 5?

2. How do I apply existing settings and customization from version 5 (installed) to a portable install of version 6 on a USB?

Thanks.

Jon

All versions (v6, v5, and earlier) and editions (32-bit and 64-bit) will use the same preferences information (except for window position). Same for portable. See here for transferring customizations.

You can uninstall v5 32-bit after installing v6 64-bit (answer No to the prompt about deleting customization data).

Thank you.

In your explanation, I do not see a way to transfer the preferences (customization and settings) from the installed version to the portable. Is there a way to accomplish this?

I was afraid of that.

Thanks for the information.
