UR running to clip?

Must Ultra Recall be running to clip items from Firefox?

Only if you're running UR portable. If the Firefox extension can find UR, it will start it if it's not running.

I must be doing something wrong, then...

I've got Ultra Recall Firefox Extension 1.2 installed and active in Firefox. I click either of the two UR icons in the Firefox toolbar, but... nothing happens. No clip, no launch of UR... Nothing.

The extension first looks for a UltraRecall.loc file in the TEMP path (UR portable stores the path+filename to itself in this file when run) and launches that app if found.

Next, it looks up the default registry value under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths\UltraRecall.exe

(the UR installer creates this path during installation -- note that this will fail if installed by a non-admin user pre-Vista or unelevated user on Vista/7) and launches that app if found.

Otherwise, it tries to launch c:\program files\ultrarecall\ultrarecall.exe.

You might try manually creating the above file or registry value if they don't exist. Otherwise, something must be preventing the extension from launching UR.

That explains it... My UR is installed under a non-admin account. What are my work-around options? I cannot edit the registry or the TEMP paths...

You should be able to create a file in the TEMP path (many apps, like UR itself, need to be able to write there, so you should be able to as well). Create a text file there named UltraRecall.loc with contents of the full path+filename of UltraRecall.exe (with no quotes or newlines). Literally type %TEMP% into Explorer or a file dialog to save in that path.

Or force UR to run in portable mode (see http://www.kinook.com/UltraRecall/Ma...stallation.htm) and start UR before using the Firefox extension.

THANK YOU! Adding the file to the TEMP directory worked as expected.

Perhaps the installer could be made to handle such cases (non-admin installs of UR), so that clipping worked immediately after installation? Or advise the user on how to workaround?

Yes, it probably makes sense to update the installer to create the .loc file for non-admins.
