Opening an UR database takes about 5 seconds

I have been having this issue since I migrated to Windows7. Even though, my new laptop is at least 5 times faster, opening an UR database is taking 5-7 seconds. Has anyone experienced this at all?

Perhaps. It depends on several factors. How large is your database? Mine is approaching 1GB, so I expect it to take some time to load. However, on my system, it loads in five seconds or less.

The other factors that affect load time are:

1. Are you loading UR on startup? In my experience, this is a big mistake, as Windows needs to finish what it is doing when it boots up. After that UR is reasonably responsive.

2. Occasionally I have to use my database from a USB thumb drive. This slows the loading process and other functions considerably.

3. Are you using the portable version? I don't, but I think that running UR from a USB would contribute to a slow down.

Also check your security software settings, if it's set to scan the file on each loading and it's a big database it can easily take couple of seconds.
