Ideas on using VBP in multiple stages needed

I am looking for ideas on what other people are doing for code promotion in their applications. We have a three stage process. The first being a compile process. The second involves promoting the successful compile to an automated test app. Finally, promoting the application a step further to an integrated test environment.
I am specifically looking for ideas on how you have used Visual Build Pro to completely automate the process. Do you use any other applications, third party or otherwise to fill any gaps? Do you run each stage independently? Have you found methods to remotely manage the build process?
Any ideas or references would be greatly appreciated.
