Working with cloud

Hi,

I have two general questions regarding storing my UR files on the cloud.

1) Is there any way to open a UR file read-only? My UR file is very big and many times I just want to check something in the file. But whenever I close it, the file is modified and cloud takes long time to sync.

2) Related to question 1. Are you aware of any way to reduce the upload time? Maybe incremental sync? I am using Google drive, doesn't seem to work like that, even if I make small changes, it sync the whole file, which takes very long time.

Thanks,
yf

1) Mark the file with the read-only attribute, or use the /readonly command-line flag to open the file.

Also see

for ways to minimize file changes when not read-only.

2) You need to use backup/sync software that supports block-level delta copy (of only the modified parts of a file).

Both OneDrive & DropBox use block-level sync. I have mine in dropbox and they add up to a total of 5g. Daily syncs usually takes less than 120 seconds.

The only trouble is when you leave a urd database open on multiple pcs. You start getting conflicted copies. Also, there is no way to access you data over mobile. Sometimes, I use tools like TeamViewer or rdp client.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know the difference and have been using Google drive all the time.

Yes, I see duplicate copies sometimes. I also hope there's an easier way to access on the phone, e.g. export to EPUB or CHM format.
