Help file in urd format so I can highlight/annotate ?

Just wondering, is there a Ultra Recall Help file in URD format.

I was thinking it would be nice if there's a way that I could highlight or make annotations etc that would help me remember a concept or a feature better once I have taken the trouble to understand it.

It's kind of like using a yellow highlighter and making notes on a piece of paper.

Naturally I cannot do it on the chm file.

I can live with the fact that help files are periodically updated and I cannot bring the highlights or notes over.

But that applies as well to an updated paper based book.

But it can certainly help me (us) get better use out of Ultra Recall as we read and learn from the help files.

No, but that is something to consider when revamping the help file.

Some other options:

1) http://www.ultrachm.com/

2) Convert the CHM file to HTML (see http://www.google.com/search?q=chm+decompiler) or download the online help to HTML (see http://www.google.com/search?q=website+downloader) and then import (linked) into UR for highlighting and annotating

Thumbs up

I think that sounds like a great idea: notes within the help file.
If someone does the chm conversion and would be willing
To post it, that would be be of use to a lot of the user base!

I was wondering, once you convert chm to html, what is the command to import it into UltraRecall.

I can see from the File Import Dialog,
What would you like to import ?

Which option do I use ?
I don't see any option for html files other than a webpage which is for a single webpage

A folder ?

A possible Freeware chm decompiler which I found via Google, although I have not tried it as yet.

"CHM Decoder v2.1
0,5 Mb
CHM Decoder may decompile your CHM file (Compiled Windows HTML Help) or e-book and extract all source files."

You would import the folder containing the HTML files. We did this and found that it requires some tweaking afterwards, since the help file software generates all files in the root folder. After importing, I rearranged the topics in the Data Explorer tree to match the help file. Extract http://www.kinook.com/Download/Misc/URManual.zip and open _UltraRecall.urd to view the help file imported into UR (use the UR tree instead of the HTML contents to navigate and annotate).

Cool - That was a very quick response.

I hope the rest in the community can benefit from this.

For me, I know as age catches up, I don't have the mental dexterity to remember the things I learned about UltraRecall and some personal highlights and notes certainly would help me.

I followed all the directions in the help file as shown below.

2 Things I noticed

1. I could edit, ie Add text etc and highlight webpages I saved from the website.

2. I could not edit (eg Add or change text) ALTHOUGH I could highlight webpages from the http://www.kinook.com/Download/Misc/URManual.zip that you posted. I had downloaded it to my computer and opened the UltraRecall.urd

I also notice that when I had UltraRecall.urd loaded, the Format toolbar is "greyed out" unless I select a couple of characters even though I have given the Item, Edit Web Page (Crtl+Shift+0) command.

This is in contrast to me edting a webpage that I saved off the internet in Point 1 above where the Format Toolbar is not greyed out at all once I give the Item, Edit Web Page (Crtl+Shift+0) command.

I must be missing something here.

Any help would be most appreciated.

"Editing Web Pages Internally

Web pages that have been imported into Ultra Recall can be edited, as well as viewed, within Ultra Recall:
1. Ensure that .htm;.html;.mht is included in the File extensions to display in internal browser view file extension list in Browser Options.
2. Ensure that .htm;.html;.mht is also included in the File extensions to open stored documents writeable file extension list in Document Options.

Note: You may need to restart Ultra Recall after updating these options. Linked web pages must be non-read-only in order to edit internally, and only local files (not pages on web sites) can be edited within Ultra Recall.

To edit a stored or linked web page item internally, select it and choose Item | Edit Web Page on the menu bar. While editing, elements on the web page can be selected, deleted, moved, text can be formatted, styled, bulleted, colored, typed, etc., using the Format Toolbar and Format menu bar. To exit edit mode, choose View | Refresh on the menu."

It does seem that the IE editing component has trouble editing the linked pages (probably because of the frames).

I decompiled the Help file with one of those chm to html converters and then imported the folder into UR.

I have no problems editing it.

I have attached the file. Not sure if it would upload as it is not one of the valid extensions for Attached files

However, it is not as neat as the one in http://www.kinook.com/Download/Misc/URManual.zip

If there is no way around the 1. above, could you tell me if the tweaking is very involved because in my post in 3. above, I was able to edit at least "my version" of the help file although it was not as tidy as the non editable version.

Maybe if it's not too involved, I could do the tweaking myself, if I knew how.

I used CHM Decoder from http://gridinsoft.com/downloads.php to decompile UltraRecall.chm (unchecking Generate Menu option), then imported the results into UR (linked), deleted all image files, and reorganized the topics to match the UR help TOC. I'm able to edit the web pages within UR. I updated http://www.kinook.com/Download/Misc/URManual.zip with this version.

Is Kinook's _UtraRecall.urd editable?
At least, I can't highlight any word?

Absolutely.

But you need to turn on Edit Web Page (Crtl+Shift+0) that's a zero not alphabet O.

That can be accessed via right click menu as well.

Bookman,
Thanks for your fast help.
I miss the new feature/command under Item.
It works.
But how come it won'tbe permanently set. Whenever a new page, I've to press Ctrl+Shift+0 (zero) again?

Yes, that is a quite bit of an annoyance. I noticed that as well.

Maybe it is to protect us from ourselves so that we don't accidentally change contents unknowingly.

Perhaps Kinook can allow us to set the default to "Allow Editing of Web pages".
