Search does not search!

I'm running into this on a daily basis now. Using quick search with any strings does not execute any search '0 matching items ... done'.

I know, of course, that it is lying to me. So I close the database and retry the same exact search and I see the results.

Before I begin on capturing logs and screen-shots. Has this issue been known to you? If yes, is there a workaround or fix?

Thank you.

I have the same issue, for a looooong time, not a daily basis, but regularly. The search doesn't find anything but I know there are matches, so I reopen the file and it works again.

Any details you can provide on reproducing this problem could be helpful. Thanks.

I recently had the same problem until I noticed the cause for it which I illustrate with the following example (see the screenshots):
I did a quick search for "utilitarianism" (which yielded many results; 0004.jpg), then clicked on the "advanced" button in order to modify the search criterion and search for "Kant" in item titles only. This second search yielded no results because, as I at first didn't notice, while I modified the search criterion under the "advanced"-button, the search expression from the previous quick search ("utilitarianism") was still there. So I actually and accidentally did no new search for "Kant" but an AND-search for "utilitarianism" AND "Kant" which yielded no results (0005.jpg). Only after deleting "utilitarianism" in the quick search did I get the results for "Kant" (0006.jpg).

search failure

I've had the same problem, too, for quite some time, and neither of the two solutions above solve the problem. If I perform the search and then navigate to an item that I know has the search string, it will be highlighted, even though there were no Search Results. Seems to be the case only and always when the search string includes a digit.
Please let me know what further information would be helpful. As best I recall (!), this started around v3.5, and has been the case on up through the current v4.2b.

Press Alt+t,c, Enter (Admin note: Tools | Compact and Repair on the menu, with Repair checked) will heal the search failure.

jmaspv,
You're welcome. BTW, just make sure leaving "Reset all system information to defaults" unchecked.
Otherwise, whatever notes you may have laboriously entered in the default system "info item" will be gone. Hope it helps.

Is it expected to use this only once?

If not, tbh, I prefer to close the UR file and open it again. So something goes wrong with the database while working with it, can the reason for it be fixed?

Hi Quant,
TBH, becuase I use "Alt+T, C, Enter" so often, I no longer see the search failure as an anomaly anymore! I wrote a macro to automate the process. UR has never failed once. No, there's nothing wrong with the database. The search failure usually occurs after last anormal exit of UR.

This happened again with me. The first screenshot (0012.jpg) shows no results. The second screenshot (0011.jpg) shows the 'correct' results after closing and re-opening Ultra Recall Pro. I'm sorry I don't have time at the moment to provide regkeys, sample database, etc, but here is the help information:

For what it's worth, I've also had this problem repeatedly and use the compact/repair method to fix it.

'quick search' now hangs entire database

This is a severe problem that occurred today and prevents me for doing any search. Please assist as soon as you can. This is very important as I use it on a daily basis.

The issue now is when I do a 'quick search' ...
----------------------------------------
1- UI controls clickable, but UR does not respond.
2- Editor pane freezes even when other clicking info items.
3- search never returns.
4- Eventually, I get database lock errors and AV crash errors.
5. Saved searched work fine
6- I have to kill UR process.

This is what I know for a fact ...
----------------------------------------
1- It only happens on this db.
2- It reproducible.
3- I downloaded UR today and did a re-install (UltraRecall.exe version 4.2.2.2). No fix.
4- I repaired and compacted db (w & w/out reset system attributes). No fix.

This is how to reproduce the issue ...
----------------------------------------
1- Download my db file.
2- open it and invoke 'quick search' .
3- You should observe the above behvior.

Software version ...
----------------------------------------
