Overall build status

What determines the final overall build status (Completed/Failed)? I have two versions of a script, one of which always results in a Failed status, while the other works.

There are several steps that fail but continue (on purpose) and these steps are the same in both scripts, so I'm at something of a loss to explain the discrepancy. There are several differences between the scripts but the steps that fail are identical, and everything else is Succeeding.

Any suggestions?
