changing default font for text items

I can't find a way to change the default font settings for text items. I'm using 3.0.1 Pro in XP SP2.

After upgrading to UR 3, I noticed that the default font size is 12-point -- too big for my eyes. So I go to the text item under templates, select all, and change the selection to 11-point with the format toolbar.

I de-select, and see that the format bar agrees that the current font is 11-point.

So I go back to a text item under the project tree and create a child. I click in the text pane, and see it's 12-point.

So I go back to the template, right-click on the text pane, select font, and set the size to 11. I insert a new text child back in the projects pane and click in the text pane. The format bar says 11-point. So I start typing, and the text is 12-point.

Am I doing something wrong? I searched help and couldn't find anything about setting a default font for text items.
