Counterintuitive copying

Whilst I consider UltraRecall the best thing since sliced bread, the following issues causes me a little frustration.

This is best described with a little picture, see attached.

If 'item 3' holds a copy of 'item 1' and a link to 'item 2' I would expect that a copy of 'item 3' would contain the same, ie a copy of 'item 1' and a link to 'item 2'.

As can be seen from the picture this is not the case, the copy of 'item 3' holds a copy of 'item 1' and a copy of 'item 2'.

Is this correct? Are there any advantages to the current implementation?
