Notes Pane

I used the notes pane today for the first time. My expectation was that the note would be attached to what was in the item pane, and that when the item pane changed, so would the note pane.

However, what happened was that when I went to a new browser page the note pane remained the same.

As I tried to figure why the note pane would not change, I saw that sometimes it did, and sometimes it didn't, and I couldn't figure out what the criteria was for its changing.

I am sure there is a rationale, but from the perspective of a user who wants to keep everything simple, I would like each time there is something new in the item pane, whether it comes from an item in the tree or a new page in the browser that there be a new note pane, and that whatever is written in the note pane be associated with what is in the item pane at the time. Otherwise, it seems to me the convenience and use value of the note pane is diminished.

Anyhow, what am I missing here? I checked the help file, and saw nothing to indicate that the note pane shouldn't change with each new item in the item pane.
