UL pro Loses trayicon
I have a strange problem with UR, in that it sometimes loses the Trayicon in the taskbar. In the task manager, it shows that it is NOT running as an application anymore when this happens, however in the processes tab the UltraRecall.exe is still running. Trying to restart the program fails to activate it.
The only way I can retrieve the program is to end the process and open it again. Any clues appreciated. Thanks |

We haven't seen that before. Do you recall what you were doing in UR and/or other applications when this occurred? Which version+SP+bitness (32/64) of Windows are you running? Do you have any security or other background software running that could be interfering UR?

Still not sure what causes this, however here is a snapshot of my settings
http://greenecozine.com/pics/snap.png Basically, the app was minimised offscreen, then later realised the trayicon was not available to reactivate. Seems to be OK when not minimised to trayicon (taskbar only). Othe apps running: Mozilla FF/ thunderbird, mozy home backup, windoze firewall and AVG A/virus. I also use Evernote but this appears to work ok alongside UR. ----- S/pack 3 on xp 32bit ----- Ultra Recall Professional 3.5b Evaluation Version: 54 days remaining Windows version: 5.1.2600.3.0 Install path: C:\Program Files\UltraRecall EncryptPDF.dll version 3.0.0.2 mimepp.dll version 3.0.4 pdf2txt.dll version 3.1.0.4 PolarSpellChecker.dll version 4.0.5.4 SftPrintPreview_IX86_U_10.dll version 1.05 UltraRecall.exe version 3.5.2.1 unins000.exe version 51.49.0.0 C:\WINDOWS\system32\MsftEdit.dll version 5.41.15.1515 C:\WINDOWS\system32\RichEd20.dll version 5.30.23.1230 Database filename: C:\Program Files\UltraRecall\Samples\test.urd Database version: 3.2.1 [11/11/2008 17:40:21] -------- EDIT= sorry last image was unavailable. corrected now./edit Last edited by houseofstrauss; 11-18-2008 at 11:36 AM. |

Some further observations on UR startup issue
1- UR is configured in options to start with windows startup. 2- Minimize on windows startup, etc; ie all the options checked 3- UR is passworded for the inital URD 4- On initial windows startup, UR loads correctly and asks for password 5- password entered and all menus and content load, appears to be correct. 6- At this point there is no trayicon, or taskbar icon showing. 7- When UR is minimized or closed there are no icons to restore the app. on screen. 8- However, in system processes, UltraRecall.exe is still running. 9- While the process is running, trying to run the exe again fails to start UR untill process is terminated. 10 Once UR is running again, it appears to work correctly 11 it appears to be an initial windows startup problem. |

You have set UR to ONLY be displayed in the system tray when minimized. The icons that are displayed in the system tray are also influenced by the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" (right click taskbar). Both the check box 'Hide inactive icons' and under "Customize" - Is the UR item perhaps set to 'always hide'? Perhaps setting it to 'Always show' will help. Good call $bill and I set the icon always visible. However, it still seems unstable and I have a couple of windows errors when shutting the app down
http://greenecozine.com/pics/ur1.jpg when minimised and right clicking on the taskbar tab to shut the app down http://greenecozine.com/pics/ur2.jpg after the app had started again from minimised. I've set the option NOT to minimise to the trayicon and this works ok. Something is adrift, but if others have not found it, it maybe something quirky on my system... Can't see why as I don't hack the system or code, everything is out of the box. |

I run URp on both a desktop PC running XP Pro SP2 and a notebook running Vista Ultimate and I haven't seen any problem like this.
Perhaps try uninstalling/reinstalling UR. I don’t know that this will help but it sure does sound like something might have gone wrong during the installation. While reinstalling you might want to disconnect from the Internet and then shut down your anti-virus/anti-spyware during the installation. (I did see something similar during another app's installation when I used TrendMicro - briefly). Jim |

Hi J-mac, thanks for the reply... I'll try this today, as I'm still getting some occasional windows exceptions when I close down UR.

I did a full uninstall and registry cleanout of UR and reinstalled it. I've used it now it full default mode and I'm still getting access violation warnings from windows when I close the program. It never seems to destabilize the program or corrupt settings, but something is obviously adrift. Maybe it drops files elesewhere during installation for the trial timeouts, I'm not sure, I just deleted all the registry entries and files.
