When you click the Quick Search icon...
When you click the Quick Search icon, can you change the functionality so that focus is on the Search input box?
Currently this boxes contents are highlighted making you believe that focus IS on the box. Then when you start typing (a search string) strange things start happening in the tree to the left. Luke Last edited by luke; 10-14-2006 at 06:29 AM. |

I agree, this behaviour is very disconcerting. After clicking the Quick Search icon you have to press Ctrl+2 to move the focus to the Search for box.

I'm guessing that you have a favorite for the Quick Search item and you're clicking that? Going to a favorite does not currently set focus to the detail pane.
But if you instead use the Search button on the View toolbar (equivalent of Ctrl+Shift+F or Edit | Search on the menu), it does move the focus to the detail pane after navigating to the Quick Search item, allowing you to immediately start typing a search phrase. |

OK. Now removed from Favourites.

Ah, now I remember why I added search as a favourite: so I could ctrl-click to open it in a new tab. Is there a way to do this with the Search icon on the View toolbar?

Not exactly. You could:
a) Ctrl+T, Ctrl+Shift+F b) Customize the toolbar, adding a New Tab command next to the Search button, and click New Tab, then Search c) Keep the Search pane visible, and right-click Quick Search -> Open in New Tab d) Just use a favorite as before, but press Ctrl+2 or click on the search field before typing. We'll see about adding an option to focus Item Details when going to a favorite. |
