v3.1 user-defined keywords not deleted

One of my custom keywords is 'food'. This is a keyword I want to get rid of in the list. I did a quick search user defined keywords for 'food'. No items came up yet 'food' remains (un-checked) in the list. How do I get rid of it? Thank you.

On the search form, ensure that 'Search titles only', 'Match whole words', and 'Limit search...' are unchecked and that 'Search only user-defined keywords' and 'Include items in Recycle bin' are checked and click Start again. If there are any matches, select them and uncheck the keyword in the Item Keywords dialog.
