Using UR with Maxthon2

Hi all,
Has anyone been able to have UR buttons show in M2. My primary browser has been FireFox for years, but about 40% of my browsing and the content I capture comes from corporate and general public sites that are optimized for IE for which I use M2. I know I can use the context menu for this, but occasionally the web page will have content on it where either context menu does not show or it shows with a different set of items on the menu.

Just recently, M2 came up with a new update that added support for IE extensions (http://www.maxthon.com/changelog.htm). I hoped to have this features enable me to add UR buttons, but for some reason they never showed up. Some instructions were posted here http://forum.maxthon.com/index.php?showtopic=70694

Has anybody been able to do it?

Does this no longer work in Maxthon 2 (as it did in the version circa Dec. 2005)?

no it does not. I did see this post before I made mine. I implemented the hack I mentioned earlier which allowed some of the IE extensions to show, but UR wasn't one of them.

This is a minor issue for me but it is certainly nice to have. This is something I would ask you to do if you feel bored for few moments or may be while you wait for your Pizza delivery.

It appears that you would need to request (the forum thread you mentioned states only partial support of IE toolbars in v2) that they support the UR extension in Maxthon v2. It is a standard IE toolbar extension and works properly in Maxthon v1.6.

None...

It is just that some of the web apps are optimized for IE engine like Outlook web mail. Also, a good deal of corporate web apps default to using MS tools and platforms best suited for IE.

Kinook,
Looks like this may be much easier that what I thought. JarC was kind enough to suggest a workaround in post# 20 here http://forum.maxthon.com/index.php?s...dpost&p=422709

I tried and was able to get it to store web pages. But, the UR link did not work and in neither cases did this method copy the selected portion of the web page. It did whole page.

Can you please review that the 'externa tools-->add external too' feature to see if it'll work this way?

Thank you

To import the selection, you would need to copy the selection (Ctrl+C), and call UR with the /importclip command-line flag (the toolbar code is a bit more complex than that forum post indicates). But calling from the command line as shown should work for link and copy. Full details on the UR command-line syntax are at http://www.kinook.com/UR/Manual/command_linesyntax.htm

I am aware that the toolbar code itself is as you say, a bit more complex. Forgive me for making it sound too simple by referring to the fact that from what I have seen, there is no direct integration between UR and browser other than buttons (either the separate ones or the ones on the toolbar) and the context menu items calling UR at some point with command line arguments.

I only looked at what it added to IE and went from there, so was not aware of the other commandline options. Good to see there is an alternative for clips.

So, to sum it up, this how you add it in M2 ...

1) Go to Tools-->external tools-->add external tool
--------------------------------------------------------------------
- You run above twice (for link and copy commands)
- See attached files on how to populate the above dialogue box.
- Right-click on toolbars area and make sure you show the plugin toolbar.

2) If you have issues ...
--------------------------------------------------------------------
- Refer to UR command line syntax http://www.kinook.com/UR/Manual/command_linesyntax.htm

- For Maxthon issues, refer to this thread http://forum.maxthon.com/index.php?...mp;#entry422680

Thank you
