import -> move file to

when importing files there is an option to move the file into the ur database.

i'd like to see an option to move a file from the source dir to an other dir; e.g. a directory located at the same place where the ur-database resides.

would be very helpful to keep the database small and keep the files together so they'r not spread all over the hd/network

afaik the linked files in a subdir where ur-database is, are relative links. keeping all files in these sub dir(s) makes copying the whole database together w/ the linked documents much more esier.

would that be a possible feature in the (near) future ?

It's still on the list (it's not so simple due to possible filename clashes, etc.).

You can approximate this configuration using a combination of SendToX, the new Folder Synchronization capabilities in Ultra Recall, and a subfolder relative to your .urd for your files to be located.

Initial Setup
1) Download [1] and install [2] SendToX

2) Create a subfolder for your existing files relative to your .urd file. Maybe put it in the same folder with the same name as the .urd file (without the extension)

3) Move/copy any existing files you want to link in Ultra Recall into this new subfolder

4) Import (not storing) this folder (maintaining hierarchy and importing subfolders) into Ultra Recall using the Import Wizard (Files | Import | A folder).

Using
1) Select and right-click file(s) in Windows Explorer (or enter a local path in the UR address bar, then select file(s) in the UR detail pane).

2) On the right-click menu, choose Send To | Any Folder, and enter or browse to the created folder (or subfolder) in the same path where your .urd file is located. That path will be remembered and be readily available for sending other files to in the future.

3) Routinely re-import the relative root folder using the same settings as the first import, ensuring that the Create logically linked items for duplicate URLs checkbox is checked. Existing items will be skipped, but any new files will be imported at the appropriate location. Also, any Logical Links to these file Info Items would be preserved.

Notes
This solution is obviously not as convenient as what you requested, but as mentioned above, some complications exist in implementing your proposal:
1) Should all "stored relative" files be placed into a single folder (a flat list)? If so, how to handle duplicate filenames? If not, how to manage this separate hierarchy?
2) Would this mode always "move" the file, or "copy" or be selectable when the operation occurs?
3) Would a way to convert existing Info Items to this new "storage" style (and back??) be required?
