Sync data item from UR -> External Folder
Is this possible?
I have a windows folder full of documents: invoice1.doc invoice2.doc etc I import (store and link) into UR. I then create a new invoice32.doc WITHIN UR and try to sync this back out to my windows folder. Doesn't work. Should this work? As a side suggestion - it would be pretty handy if UR, when opening a linked folder, could briefly do a scan of the external folder and perhaps warn you if it requires syncing (or optionally automatically sync!). How did you create the new Invoice32.doc within UR? Do you have a user-defined template containing a blank Word doc? What is the url attribute value of the newly created "Invoice32.doc" Info Item? Are you syncing the folder or just the newly created Info Item? Both should work depending on the url attribute value of the item...

I copied and 'pasted as copy' and then 'open document'ed it to change the contents and then saved it back to UR.
Then I went to the parent folder (Invoices) and selected it and pressed the sync button. Should that work? |

If you delete the Url attribute value of the new Info Item, it should (otherwise it is 'linked' to the original Info Item's document and will sync with it).

ooh that's interesting - does that mean there is potential here for a nasty inadvertant overwriting?
if i copy and paste invoice32 to invoice33 and forget to update the URL, I could end up overwriting invoice32 (filesystem copy) with the contents of the new invoice? Might be worth considering a way to avoid this kind of thing happening! may be if more than one data item has the same URL attribute a warning be thrown? Daniel |

Yes, that is a potential issue when copying an existing Info Item which has a Url referencing a local document (which can be synced), I would recommend that you instead create a simple template which represents a new, blank Word Document and then Insert a new Info Item based on this template rather than copy an existing Info Item, which avoids this issue.
See this help file entry (http://www.kinook.com/UltraRecall/Ma...ttemplates.htm) for information on creating a new template containing a stored, blank Word document. |
