Version numbers

How does visual build handle version numbers for builds?

Also is there a way to have visual build replace pieces of text in a text files.

Finally is there a way to retrieve a piece of text from a text file using vbscript?

However you want it to. Versions can be stored in macros, set/incremented in tool actions (Make VC6, Make VS.NET, etc.), via Run Script, Set Macro actions, passed on the command-line, etc.

To read in the file contents:
s = vbld_FSO().OpenTextFile("c:\path\to\file.ext").Rea dAll

Then use InStr or RegExp to locate the desired piece.
