Installing Visual Build on Linux and Mac OS X

Linux

1) Download and install Wine or CrossOver Linux.

2) Download and install Visual Build.

3) To start Visual Build, double-click on the desktop icon (click Mark as Trusted the first time).

4) To perform a command-line build, start a Terminal session and run the Visual Build console application. The following commands demonstrate two ways to build a Visual Build sample:
Code:
wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/VisBuildPro7/VisBuildCmd
  "C:\Program Files\VisBuildPro7\Samples\RegEdit.bld"
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/VisBuildPro7
wine VisBuildCmd /logfile Files.log Samples/Files.bld
Mac OS X

1) Download WineBottler and drag it to the Applications folder in Finder, or download and install CrossOver Mac.

2) Download and install Visual Build.

3) To start Visual Build:
a) Start Finder, go to the folder ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/VisBuildPro7, and double-click VisBuildPro.exe (or copy VisBuildPro.exe to the desktop and run from there).
or
b) Double-click WineBottler in the Applications folder, then double-click WineHelper, choose Application -> Open on the menu, browse to Program Files -> VisBuildPro7 and double-click VisBuildPro.exe.

4) To perform a command-line build, start a Terminal session and run the Visual Build console application. The following commands demonstrate building a Visual Build sample:
Code:
open -a Wine
  ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/VisBuildPro7/VisBuildCmd
  "C:\Program Files\VisBuildPro7\Samples\RegEdit.bld"
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/VisBuildPro7
open -a Wine VisBuildCmd /logfile Files.log Samples/Files.bld

Notes:
* Browse to the Z: drive (Desktop -> My Computer -> Z:) to access the Linux / OS X file system from a build.
* Some features may a) require additional Windows applications to be installed in Wine or b) not be available or work properly within Wine.
