Pasting a url over a node does not store locally

Hello

I just tried a very neat trick where I copy a url from the Opera browser address bar (Cntrl+C), navigate to a node and then paste (Cntrl+P).

Sure enough the software was smart, and promptly begin to import the webpage.

The only problem was that, in this case, the page did not store locally.

I reimported the web page by a more "normal" method - ie dragging from the UR address bar - its stored locally now.

Luke

The link vs. store behavior for either of those import methods is governed by 'Tools | Options | Import | Store contents when importing files and web pages' (unless you right-dragged and chose Copy instead of Link or held down Ctrl when dragging).

Hmm, OK, well I can leave it that.

What I'm saying is that the option was already set. But didn't work when I pasted over the node. But it does work when I drag.

Of course I'm not too bothered about this as I'm always happy to drag. I'm just alerting you to that fact that if you paste a url over a node, it doesn't store unlike the drag methods. And it probably should, as if its going to import, it should import according to the setting.

Cheers,
Luke

You didn't previously mention that you had that option set. You're right -- pasting text containing a URL in the UR tree does not honor that option (and apparently never has) and will always link instead of storing.

A couple alternatives for now:
1) Use the Edit | Paste Special | Copy shortcut (default is Ctrl+Shift+V) instead of Ctrl+V
2) Use the global import shortcut (default is Win+V) instead of Ctrl+V

Yes you're right I didn't mention that before.

Win + V didn't work for me. It said it was importing then didn't, or the imported page wasn't visible anywhere.

However Cntrl + Shift + V worked very well. That'll be handy to use in future.

Thanks.

Luke

Win+V will import to Imported Items if 'Tools | Options | Import | Insert imported items at bold item in Data Explorer pane' is unchecked.

Mine is unchecked.

I notice that "Win" is checked though, and none of the other hotkey options are.
