Include attributes in combined text when multi-selecting items
Hi,
Regarding the "Show combined text for multiple selection" feature, which displays each item's title when displaying combined text-- Please consider adding an option to include other attribute/value pairs like template item, due date, complete, etc., in addition to the title. This would allow users to easily paste selected items into ChatGPT or Claude, where they could serve as context for subsequent queries. It would effectively turn Ultra Recall into an AI-powered personal GPT, allowing users to "talk to" the information and documents stored in Ultra Recall. You could include all attributes, or an enhancement could be to add a "Show in multi-select" column to the Tools > Attributes configuration panel, so irrelevant attributes like Item ID and Keyword count could be excluded. For those who are interested, this would follow the "retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)" pattern that is central to usefully integrating arbitrary personal information into AI conversations. It would be *extremely powerful*, especially considering Claude's context window of 200,000 tokens, which is approximately 300 pages. For non-commercial users, copy/pasting into the web interface (as described above) is actually far superior to a direct integration that calls an LLM via an API, which incurs expensive per-use charges. Please consider it--it would greatly amplify the already incredible value that Ultra Recall provides to users. Best regards, Aaron |

This has been implemented in a patch download. See https://www.kinook.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=5812 for more details.

Follow-up
Quote:
Again, many thanks. I have a few minor follow-up requests/tweaks. 1) Add carriage return after item title. (Please see the attached picture.) 2) Add extra carriage return after item body text, to create a single line of white space between the end of one item and the beginning of the next item. 3) Add parent title(s) or lineage to displayed attributes. This would allow AI to understand/reconstruct the relationships between items in the Data Explorer, which will be greatly helpful for things like project management. Best regards, Aaron |

You can control the separation between items and titles via Tools | Options | Import | Separator text for appending/joining/combining/splitting.
https://www.kinook.com/UltraRecall/M...portdialog.htm Here it is set to two blank lines. It's actually not so easy to get the parent information at this time. |

Can this feature be disabled in settings?
I combine text from multiple items (each item is a presentation slide) and I really do not want to show any attribute other than the item title. I typically combine all 'slides' / copy all / paste into Word / tidy up then print. Hope this can be done. Thanks |

Either use v6.3.0.19 or see
IncludeAttributeForMultipleSelection here: https://www.kinook.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=5097 |

I was able to disable it using the registry setting. I'm not comfortable with this release fragmentation that is now happening to UR.
Depending on how you install UR, you get a different release. I can't recall single app I use that does that. Features are enabled/disabled using in-app settings, ini files, or registry. I really hope there is way to avoid this. Thanks Last edited by cnewtonne; 01-16-2025 at 10:07 AM. |
